We had a pretty special time at the recent inaugural Re/Form Conference.
The location? Magical.
The food? Splendid.
The people? Inspiring.
The talks? Noteworthy.
At The Corker Co, we hold quite a few events throughout the year (like DisruptHR YVR coming up in June!), so this two-day creative retreat gave us some great takeaways and learnings to incorporate into our work and events.
Here are our top 4 lovings and learnings from the conference:
What we loved
Being in the woods.
Feeling like we were nestled away in a far away land (when we were actually just a hop-skip away from Vancouver at the Cheakamus Centre).
The wellness breaks between workshops and presenters were 👌for getting outside or stretching our bodies.
We also loved the blend of sit-down + listen sessions with interactive workshops to work on our own business/idea.
What we learned
Here are some favourite quotes that really stuck with us:
“Articulating processes helps drive growth and culture.” – Devon Brooks, CEO and Founder of Sphere
“You can be busy and not have a busy mind.” – Kate Horsman, Holistic Nutritionist
“Who we see is what we know.” – Paulina Cameron, Author of Canada 150 Women and Regional Director at Futurpreneur Canada
“Know what your words are because we all have a different experience with language.” – Jess Robson, Copywriter
“If you don’t know how to say no, your yes is meaningless.” – Matt Corker, Co-Founder at The Corker Co
Standing = power.
We were also reminded that standing while speaking adds power to a presentation or conversation. Stools and couches made for a cozy stage setting, yet the speakers who stood up during their presentations were more impactful and engaging than those who sat. Rather than being at the same level as the audience, having height, whether that’s by standing or sitting on a higher stool, creates a more interactive and memorable talk.
All in all, Re/Form was a conference for the books and we left feeling re-connected to our creative drive and inspired to bring the ideas we sparked into action.
Meet Matt. He is bold. He is always up for the adventure. He is your biggest fan.
